The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that eight players have withdrawn from the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to various injury concerns.
The players affected are Iñaki Williams, Tariq Lamptey, Jonas Adjetey, Jerome Opoku, Antoine Semenyo, Alexander Djiku, Ibrahim Osman, and Joseph Painstil.
Iñaki Williams suffered a hamstring injury on 7 November and has been unable to train since. Tariq Lamptey is dealing with calf discomfort that was aggravated last week, and he is undergoing rehabilitation with his club.
Jonas Adjetey was on the path to recovery but suffered a setback in his team’s last league game on 9 November. Jerome Opoku is struggling with chronic back pain that worsened during a Super Lig match against Besiktas on 10 November.
Antoine Semenyo is nursing a patella tendon injury due to an overload of games, and his club medical team has decided to refer him to a tendon specialist to prevent further complications. Alexander Djiku has an aggravated hamstring injury that led to his substitution in the last game on 10 November.
Ibrahim Osman picked up a hamstring injury in his last outing for his club, which resulted in him being substituted at halftime. Joseph Painstil has withdrawn for personal reasons.
The withdrawals will be a significant setback for the Black Stars as they prepare for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The GFA will need to find suitable replacements to maintain their momentum in the competition.
