The Somalian Ministry of Telecommunications and Technology has announced a ban on TikTok, Telegram, and the online betting platform 1Xbet.
According to the ministry, the move aims to counter and prevent indecent activities and content, as well as extremism propaganda.
The ministry has instructed “the companies that provide internet services to stop the these websites (Applications)”.
They allege that these social media apps are “used by terrorists & groups responsible for immorality to spread horrific videos and access. the constant misinformation they spread in society”.
The aforementioned apps are therefore, “instructed to close no later than Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 11:30 p.m.
It said “Anyone who fails to comply with this order will be subject to clear legal action”
