Electrical faults tripped five generating units at Kriel Power Station on Monday morning.
The power utility says some of the faults may be linked to heavy mist in the area.
As a result, 2,000 megawatts of generation capacity have been removed from the system.
Generation units at other power stations are expected to return to service later on Monday, but should there be further problems before then, we may experience more power cuts.
