Ghana has established an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to spearhead the country’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a major step toward coordinating national efforts ahead of the global football event.
The committee was inaugurated at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who urged members to execute their responsibilities with diligence, transparency, and firm commitment.
He noted that effective planning and inter-agency coordination would be essential as Ghana intensifies its World Cup readiness.
The newly constituted body brings together representatives from critical sectors including sports management, national security, finance, youth development, and foreign affairs whose contributions are expected to shape Ghana’s technical, logistical, and diplomatic preparations.
The members are:
- Stan Xoese Dogbe – Office of the President
- Kofi Adams – Sports and Recreation
- Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- George Opare Addo – Youth Development
- Yusif Jajah – Deputy Minister, Tourism and Culture
- Ampem Nyarkoh – Deputy Minister, Finance
- Kurt Okraku – President, Ghana Football Association (Chairman)
- Elizabeth Yankah – Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Abedi Pele – Former Black Stars Captain
- Wilhelmina Asamoah – Chief Director, Ministry of Youth and Sports
- One additional representative – to be announced
Government Commitment and Funding
The government has earmarked GH¢150 million to support the Black Stars’ participation in the tournament, a move that underscores its commitment to ensuring thorough preparation both on and off the pitch.
With the committee now in place, officials say Ghana is set to streamline its planning efforts from logistics and team support to international coordination as the 2026 World Cup approaches.
