Spain’s foreign minister José Manuel Albares has reaffirmed the key importance of Morocco for Spain, describing the North African Kingdom as a ”strategic partner, not just a neighbor”.
He made the remarks at a meeting organized Wednesday in Valencia by Las Provincias newspaper. “Morocco is a strategic partner, not just a neighbor with whom you have to maintain good relations”, said Mr. Albares highlighting the countries common history and shared economic and geostrategic interests.
He also spoke of the cooperation agreements signed by the two countries during their joint high-level meeting convened last February, saying that Moroccan-Spain cooperation is gaining momentum in all sectors.
Trade exchanges soared to 20 billion euros, 11,000 Spanish firms export their products to Morocco and 1,100 others have been installed in the North African Kingdom, added the minister, praising Morocco’s role in combating illegal migration and terrorism.
During their latest high-level meeting convened Feb.1-2 in Rabat, the two partner neighbors signed several agreements destined to boost further their cooperation in migration management, tourism, infrastructure, water, environment protection, agriculture, vocational training, social security, transport, health, research and development.
