The Super Eagles’ preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) received a major boost as goalkeeper Francis Odinaka Uzoho, forward Sadiq Umar and midfielder Alhassan Yusuf arrived in camp.
The trio touched down in Abu Dhabi in the early hours and headed straight to the team hotel to join up with the squad.
Experienced shot-stopper Uzoho, who recently moved to Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia, was the first of the new arrivals. He was closely followed by Umar, who sealed a dream transfer to La Liga giants Real Sociedad after an impressive goalscoring season with Almeria.
The latest addition is Belgian-based midfielder Yusuf, who has been called up as a late replacement for the injured Wilfred Ndidi. Yusuf plies his trade with Royal Antwerp in the Belgian top flight.
With these new arrivals, the Eagles camp is now almost at full strength as they continue preparations for the tournament scheduled to begin on January 13th in Ivory Coast.
Earlier, Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili and Samuel Chukwueze as well as other players had already hit camp to start training.
Head coach Jose Peseiro will be hoping this blend of experienced stars and young players can help the team replicate their success in the 2013 edition when they lifted the trophy under Stephen Keshi.
The Super Eagles have been drawn against Equatorial Guinea, the host Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau in Group A. They start their campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14th at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
The team will be looking to claim their 5th AFCON title and first since 2013. With the squad now almost complete, fans will be optimistic of a successful tournament for the Super Eagles.
