Doctors and scientists keep reminding us that spending too much time in front of screens can ultimately have a huge impact on our eyesight. But today, it is difficult to do otherwise. So in order to detect eye problems as early as possible, Japanese researchers had the idea of creating a video game capable of detecting signs of glaucoma in players.
As a reminder, this is a chronic eye disease linked to the progressive destruction of the optic nerve. We often realize too late that we have glaucoma. In collaboration with Sendai Broadcasting, researchers at Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Medicine have developed a shooter titled Meteor Blaster.
The particularity of this game is that it detects the first signs of glaucoma in players in just 5 minutes. The object of the game is to blast meteorites with a laser, while capturing white dots that appear on the screen. For an ideal result, it is advisable to hold your phone 30 cm away.
After passing the 4 levels, the game will evaluate your reactions to objects and establish a report based on 16 performance criteria rated from 1 to 5, of which 1 is the ideal score.
