Tanzanian giants, Young Africans, recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over Ghanaian side Medeama in their Caf Champions League group match played at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium on Wednesday December 20.
The game was a one-sided affair as Young Africans dominated proceedings from start to finish. Pacoume Zouzoua broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, scoring the opener for Young Africans. Bukari Nando added the second goal in the 61st minute, before Mudathiru Yahya completed the rout in the 66th minute.
Medeama’s woes were compounded as striker Jonathan Sowah was shown a red card in the dying minutes of the game. The dismissal leaves Medeama with just four points from four games, sitting at the bottom of the group. CR Belouizdad, who have a game in hand against Al Ahly, are just a point above Medeama in third place.
The win has lifted the Tanzanian team to the second place of Group B with five points, same as the Egyptian giants Al Ahly, who are on top of the group with a game in hand.
Young Africans’ looked so determined to secure all three points and they did it in style, as their goalkeeper Djigui Diarra even saved Jonathan Sowah’s penalty in the 52nd minutes.
The win has boosted Young Africans’ morale as it has lifted the Tanzanian team to the second place of Group B with five points, same as the Egyptian giants Al Ahly, who are on top of the group with a game in hand.
The Ghanaian side will need to produce a much-improved performance if they are to stand any chance of securing a positive result in their last two games.
Young Africans is set to host CR Belouizdad at the same venue in early February before embarking on a journey to face the 11-time Champions League titleholders, Al Ahly, in March next year.
