Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has been on a tour of Europe in recent days, visiting injured players from the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, as they recover ahead of crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the federation has announced
Gusau’s trip comes ahead of the Super Eagles preparation for upcoming qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic in June on the road to the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
He has already met with several players recuperating from injuries, though the federation did not disclose the full list of those visited by Gusau.
William Troost-Ekong, who plies his trade in Italy’s Serie A, was among those Gusau consulted with in person about the upcoming World Cup qualifiers and their recovery statuses.
He discussed the importance of the crunch qualifiers against South Africa and Benin with Troost-Ekong and emphasized the role the injured players could play if they regain fitness.
Two other Super Eagles stars, Moses Simon and Zaidu Sanusi, are said to be nursing long-term injuries that could rule them out of at least the double duel this year.
The Super Eagles have been hampered by injuries in recent months to several regulars, leaving the NFF with limited options as the Eagles aim to navigate through World Cup qualifying.
Gusau’s personal visits could provide a morale boost, but getting players like Troost-Ekong back to full health will be crucial if Nigeria is to book a spot at the 2026 World Cup in North America.
