In a heart-stirring finale on Sunday, June 2, Ghanaian dance duo Afronita and Abigail pirouetted their way to a remarkable third-place finish in the 2024 Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) show.
Their electrifying performance not only showcased their exceptional talent but also brought the vibrant spirit of Ghana to the global stage.
Throughout the competition, the duo’s great dance moves and amazing story have wowed the world, raising high the flag of Ghana and Africa on this international platform.
At the finals, they put up an electrifying performance in bright Ghanaian colors, securing their spot in the top three out of ten finalists.
The BGT finale was a dazzling spectacle of diverse talents. The ten finalists included a choir, magicians, and a Japanese skipping group, reflecting the show’s wide-ranging appeal. Yet, it was Afronita and Abigail who shone brightly, even as singer Sydnie Christmas took the top prize, followed by magician Jack Rhodes in second place.
The judging panel—Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli, Alesha Dixon, and Amanda Holden—had the task of assessing this talent pool, while hosts Ant and Dec guided viewers through the live show. The real power, however, lay with the audience at home, whose votes during the live show determined the winners.
Behind their dazzling performances lies a story of resilience. Abigail, the young hearing-impaired dancer, hails from the Ningo-Prampram Constituency in Ghana. Her journey from there to the BGT stage is a testament to her strength and talent.
Their success has been a unifying force back home, drawing massive support from Ghanaians both in Ghana and abroad. Sam George, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, rallied his constituents and the wider Ghanaian community.
He appealed, “Dear UK fam, do us the honours and vote for our lovely girls, Abigail & Afronita on #BGT this afternoon at 7:30pm BST as they compete in the finals. Let’s bring this home.”
While they didn’t secure the top spot, which comes with a £250,000 prize and a performance at the Royal Variety Performance, their third-place finish is still a significant feat. As the MP noted, despite not winning, he still celebrated the duo for their outstanding achievement.
As another spectacular BGT season concludes, Afronita and Abigail’s story stands out. They’ve shown that with talent, determination, and the backing of a nation, dreams can indeed take center stage—even on one of the world’s biggest platforms.
