Pitso Mosimane, one of South Africa’s most celebrated football coaches, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in a landmark recognition of his contributions to the sport.

This prestigious accolade acknowledges Mosimane’s exceptional career and his significant impact on African football, being hailed as a man who has truly left an indelible mark on the beautiful game in Africa and beyond.

Mosimane, whose coaching career spans nearly three decades, has been a transformative figure in the sport since he began coaching in 1995.

His impressive resume includes successful stints with top-tier teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United in South Africa, as well as leading the national team, Bafana Bafana.

Mosimane’s influence extends beyond South African borders, with notable tenures at Al Ahly SC in Egypt and more recently, Al Ahli and Abha FC in Saudi Arabia.

The honorary doctorate recognizes not only Mosimane’s on-field successes but also his commitment to nurturing young talent. In 2022, he founded the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools, an initiative aimed at developing promising young footballers across the African continent.
