The Nigeria Scrabble Federation has secured significant corporate backing as it prepares to send a team to the 2025 World English Scrabble Players Association Championship in Accra, Ghana.

Several companies have pledged their support to the newly inaugurated NSF board, with industry figures citing the federation’s renewed vision and strategic programmes as key factors in their decision to invest.

Loenese International, led by managing director Engineer Gbenga Ojofeitimi, has committed substantial resources to Team Nigeria’s campaign. Mr Ojofeitimi, himself a scrabble enthusiast, has been involved with the sport for more than two decades, sponsoring tournaments and supporting player development across Nigeria.

Before joining the NSF board, Mr Ojofeitimi was known within the scrabble community for his hands-on approach, which extended beyond financial contributions to include mentoring players and working with coaches.

Sir Itiakpo Ikpokpo, chief executive of Dunamis and known in sporting circles as Malik, has also pledged support. He recently backed the inaugural Niger Delta Sports Festival in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Perculiar Nigeria Limited, a construction company headed by Engineer Olanrewaju Adeleke, has joined the list of sponsors. The firm previously supported last year’s All Nigeria Amazon Scrabble Championship in Benin City. Mr Adeleke has indicated plans to encourage business associates to support scrabble activities.

Collins Okafor’s Boaz Commodities Ltd, which organises the BSP Tournament in Ajegunle, Lagos, has expressed interest in financing future NSF events.

The National Sports Commission, under chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and director general Honourable Bukola Olopade, has provided institutional backing for the federation’s world championship campaign.

Engineer Dipo Akanbi, chairman of the Lagos State Scrabble and Monopoly Association, has offered financial and logistical support to the national team, including a recent visit to the training camp.

Nigeria has historically performed well in international scrabble competitions, consistently ranking among the world’s leading nations in the sport.

The World English Scrabble Players Association Championship takes place in Accra later this year.
