The Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA) has appointed Major General Adam Adamu Wase Hassan as its 38th Commandant, taking over from Major General John Olusegun Adeyemo who has been promoted to Commander Corps of Artillery.
The appointment comes after years of dedicated service within the Nigerian Army, with Major General Hassan bringing extensive military experience to the role at one of the country’s premier artillery training institutions.
The handover ceremony took place on Saturday at the military training institution, marking a significant leadership transition within Nigeria’s artillery command structure, the Nigerian Army School of Artillery said in a statement.
Major General Adeyemo, in his farewell address, thanked staff and students for their contributions during his tenure, expressing particular gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the opportunity to lead the Corps of Artillery.
He pledged his continued commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery through transformational initiatives aimed at enhancing professionalism and operational capability in addressing contemporary security challenges facing the nation.
The incoming commandant, Major General Hassan, promised to build upon his predecessor’s achievements and reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing capacity development through realistic, mission-focused training programmes.
The ceremony featured several traditional military protocols, including the decoration of the new commandant with the NASA insignia and the presentation of the school’s flag. New projects were also commissioned during the event.
Awards were presented to recognise outstanding performance, including honours for the Best Target Round during Exercise VULCAN GLOW XI, which was won by 32 Artillery Brigade. The Commandant’s Award for Outstanding Professional Performance was also presented, along with recognition for the best Gunner Officer in map reading during promotion examinations.
In an unusual gesture highlighting community service, Corporal Nancy Emmanuel received the former Commandant’s Award for Selfless Service after voluntarily providing additional waste bins throughout the barracks to promote cleanliness.
The ceremony concluded with the traditional regimental lowering and hoisting of the NASA flag, symbolising the smooth transition of command at one of Nigeria’s key military training institutions.
