Gabon will host 23rd ordinary summit of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), a regional organization promoting regional economic cooperation in Central Africa.

The ECCAS Summit, scheduled for July 1, will be chaired by President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon, who took over the ECCAS’s leadership late February.

The gathering is placed under the theme: “Take up the challenges of community, financing to accelerate the integration process in the Central African region and support the implementation of its institutional reform.”

The organization in a press release indicated that the Summit is preceded by several technical meetings starting June 20.
Experts from ECCAS member States in the fields of budget and finance, justice and legal affairs, and defense, safety and security will be taking part in the various meetings, the organization said.

The ECCAS held its 22nd Summit in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Ali Bongo took over leadership from DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and will lead the organization for a one-year mandate. He is expected to work on ways to finance the organization and to preserve forests in the region.

Founded in 1983, the ECCAS’s headquarters are located in Gabon’s capital, Libreville. The organization acquired the status of Commission in December 2019 in order to implement its activities with greater efficiency in the face of the challenges of the region and thus meet the hopes of a very young population who sees the success of its future in regional integration.
