The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed his “full support” for the United Nations’ political process in Western Sahara, during a meeting in Washington with Ahmed Attaf, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad.
According to a tweet he published ahead of his talks with Attaf, the US Department of State voiced “full support for the UN political process for Western Sahara.”
“I met with Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf to discuss the U.S.-Algeria partnership and consult on shared priorities, including stability in the Sahel and a just and durable peace in Ukraine. We also affirmed our full support for the UN political process for Western Sahara,” wrote Blinken.
The Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, Matt Miller said that Antony Blinken had reiterated full support for the Personal Envoy of Secretary-General Staffan de Mistura as he consults intensively with all concerned to achieve a political solution for Western Sahara.
The Secretary congratulated Foreign Minister Attaf on Algeria’s election to the UN Security Council and emphasized the U.S. readiness to partner closely on all issues before the Security Council.
