The Uganda Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has announced the capture of the leader of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a notorious militia squad accused of brutally murdering two foreign tourists and their local guide in a national park last month, marking a major step towards justice for the victims and their families.
The militia leader, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, was taken into custody following a meticulously planned operation conducted by Uganda’s security forces.
He was the only survivor of a nighttime military operation on Tuesday against a unit of the feared Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) that killed six other fighters, the army said.
The operation involved extensive intelligence gathering, collaboration between various security agencies, and the deployment of highly trained personnel.
A Briton and a South African were murdered along with their guide in an attack on October 17 while on safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The travellers, who were on their honeymoon, tragically lost their lives during a violent ambush carried out by the armed group while exploring the breathtaking beauty of the national park.
The incident shocked the nation and prompted swift action from the government to ensure the perpetrators faced the full force of the law.
Uganda blamed the ADF, an armed militia based in the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo that is affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group.
The IS group later claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had killed “three Christian tourists.”
