The Warriors of Zimbabwe on Friday departed for Kigali, Rwanda ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Amavubi and Super Eagles.
The Warriors will kick off their World Cup campaign with an away game against Rwanda in Butare, but must stay in the city for their home game away from home against the Super Eagles.
Eight home-based players, joined by their technical team, made the trip and will be joined by their foreign-based counterparts, who are expected to start arriving at camp this weekend.
Both games will be played at the Huye Stadium in Butare.
Zimbabwe have to honour their home matches at a neutral venue since they have no approved stadium of their own that meets FIFA standards.
The country has been barred since 2020 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from hosting any international matches until further notice after its main stadiums failed to meet required standards,
Head coach Beltmar Brito summoned 28 players to camp for both games.
Among the home-based players who made the trip are Tanaka Shandirwa, Frank Makarati, Donovan Bernard, Walter Musona, Obriel Chirinda, Peter Muduhwa, Andrew Mbeba, and Brian Banda.
Zimbabwe are drawn in Group C along with neighbours South Africa, Lesotho, Rwanda, Benin, and Nigeria.
The Warriors are taking part in the qualifying campaign after FIFA lifted an international ban on the country in July.
