Club Africain kicked off their Caf Confederations Cup group stage campaign with an impressive 2-0 win against Ghanaian side Dreams FC in a thrilling encounter at the Stade Olympique de Radès.
Two quick goals within the first 20 minutes spelled doom for the Ghanaian side in their debut participation of any CAF club competition.
The Tunisian club displayed skillful attacking play and solid defensive resilience to secure a convincing victory in their first group game.
Despite a positive showing, the Ghanaian FA Cup winners could not overcome the formidable Club Africain in their first match.
The match commenced with both teams showcasing their intent to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities. Club Africain started to impose themselves on the game early on, applying pressure and maintaining control of the midfield.
Their efforts were rewarded in the 5th minute when forward Tayeb Meziani broke the deadlock from a brilliant team move, while Kingsley Eduwo doubled the lead in the 19th minute due to a goalkeeping error by Solomon Agbasi led to Eduwo’s goal.
The vociferous support for Club Africain and an intimidating crowd did not deter Dreams FC from giving a commendable performance, but they failed to register a goal.
Dreams FC faced additional challenges as defender Abdul Jalilu received a second yellow card, leading to his expulsion from the match. Despite the setback, Dreams FC, as first-timers in the competition, showcased resilience and attacking intent.
While Club Africain dominated possession, Dreams FC’s positive performance offers encouragement for the upcoming matches. The team, led by Karim Zito, will quickly shift focus to their next game against Nigeria’s Rivers United next weekend, aiming to bounce back with a victory.
