Accra, Ghana (April 1, 2024) – Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, have begun preparations to defend their African title at the upcoming African Amputee Football Cup of Nations (AAFCON) 2024 in Cairo, Egypt, the Ghana Paralympic Committtee has announced.
18 players, including 8 foreign-based players from Turkey have been invited to a training camp that commences on April 5th in Accra.
“The players, who consisted of eight (8) professionals based in Turkey, arrived in Ghana between 28 March and 31 March 2024 to join their local counterparts in camp to defend the trophy they had won in 2021,” the Committee said in a statement.
Ghana is the reigning champion from the last African Amputee Football Cup of Nations held in 2021, as well as the defending African Para Games champions.
The Black Challenge squad will pay a courtesy call on the Minister of Youth and Sports in the coming days before knuckling down for their pre-tournament training camp.
“The reigning African Nations Cup Champions and African Para Games Champions will pay a courtesy call to the Minister of Youth and Sports in the coming days before camp begins.”
The African Amputee Football Cup of Nations 2024 from 18-26 April 2024, will have 16 African teams vying for top honours and it would also decide which teams will qualify for the WAFF World Cup.
Ghana is among the favorite for the Continental glory, having won the competition on two occasions.
