Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali has called for innovative solutions and systemic changes to tackle global food security challenges as Addis Ababa hosts the World Without Hunger Conference.
Speaking at the opening of the three-day conference, which runs from Tuesday, 5 November to Thursday, 7 November, Prime Minister Abiy said: “In a crisis-prone world with a growing population, ensuring food security demands innovative solutions.”
The Ethiopian leader emphasised that addressing world hunger requires more than increasing food production. “We must adopt sustainable practices, advance modern farming, expand access to essential agricultural inputs, and address climate change to enhance productivity,” he said.
The conference, co-organised by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the Ethiopian government, with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), brings together over 1,500 high-level stakeholders.
The event features solution-oriented technical sessions, an investment forum, and a high-level political forum. Participants include heads of state and government, ministers, UN agencies, private sector representatives, financial institutions, donors, civil society organisations, and academia.
The conference aims to address hunger and malnutrition, which remain among humanity’s most pressing challenges, through coordinated efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
