Algerian outfit ES Setif have appointed ex-Egypt manager Hossam El-Badry as their new head coach, the club announced on Wednesday.
ES Setif were the surprise package of last season’s CAF Champions League after reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
However, they crashed out of the tournament after falling to a comprehensive 6-2 defeat on aggregate against Cairo giants Al Ahly.
Despite a successful run in Africa, ES Setif struggled domestically as they finished seventh in the league table, failing to qualify for continental competitions.
As a result, Serbian manager Darko Novic left his role as ES Setif head coach with rumours emerging about the potential appointment of former Al Ahly and Egypt national team manager Hossam El-Badry.
On Wednesday, the club confirmed that Hossam El-Badry landed in Algeria and will sign a contract to assume the role of head coach for the upcoming season.
“Hossam El-Badry arrived at the Boumediene Airport this evening to complete the signing of his contract and take charge of ES Setif for the 2022/23 season,” the club said in a statement.
El-Badry’s most recent tenure was with the Egyptian national team, having led the Pharaohs in nine games, of which he won five and tied in four.
The 62-year-old was later sacked by the Egyptian Football Association in September of last year due to the team’s disappointing performances.
