The tournament has been officially sanctioned by the Pan African Scrabble Association (PANASA), ensuring a highly competitive field of participants.
It comes just 12 days after a similar competition was held to mark the 40th birthday of Ghanaian player Kofi Aquah.

With PANASA’s sanctioning and some of the nation’s scrabble legends in attendance, the event is expected to see some of the most intense strategic word-making.”
SCAG has been using such birthday celebration events to develop and promote the game nationwide, capitalising on the positive momentum from hosting the 13th African Games in Accra in March.
The 50th Birthday Bash kicks off at 9am local time on Saturday at 51 trako street, Accra.
Competitors will square off in the nine rounds of regulation play, with the top scores claiming the prizes. The general public is welcome to attend and cheer on the players.
