The African Union has heaped praise on Ghana’s capital Accra for its “top-notch hosting” of the 13th African Games, a 16-day multi-sport event that saw over 5,000 athletes from across the continent compete.
The city cemented its reputation as a world-class event host, drawing effusive praise from the African Union for pulling off a seamless 13th edition of the Games.
As the University of Ghana Stadium hosted the electrifying closing ceremony to cap off the successful event, the AU, the main organizers of the Games, publicly praised Accra for its exceptional handling of the multi-sport competition.
“Thank you, Accra, for an amazing,” the AU said
“Your warmth and top-notch hosting made it a memorable experience for all.”
About 10 venues were used by the country to host the competition across 29 different sports from March 8th to March 23rd.
The African Games required years of preparation by the host nation.
Construction crews worked around the clock to renovate venues and accommodation fit for thousands of world-class athletes and coaches. While a total of 3000 volunteers were also mobilized to support operations and provide assistance.
The ability to host such a large-scale sporting event seamlessly is a feather in the cap for Ghana and highlights Accra’s capability to welcome major international events.
As the baton is now passed to Egypt for the next African Games in 2027, it is the Ghana’s Capital that takes immense pride in setting a new standard that others will aim to meet.
