The African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) and Afro Champions have successfully hosted “The Boma of Africa 2024” on the sidelines of the African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (AUMYCM) on July 20 in Accra, Ghana.
The event brought together an impressive array of African leaders, strategists, and innovators under the theme “From the Africa We Want to the Africa We Build.”
This year’s Boma served as a platform to celebrate and assess the progress of Agenda 2063, the African Union’s ambitious blueprint for transforming the continent.
The gathering featured several key highlights, including the second Sankore Lecture and the debut of the Sankore Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to Africa’s development.
A major focus of the event was the showcase of transformative projects that are reshaping the African landscape. These included:
- Energize Africa: An initiative aimed at expanding access to sustainable energy across the continent.
- The Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa: A long-term strategy to bridge Africa’s infrastructure gap.
- The Home Grown Solutions Accelerator: A program designed to foster innovative, locally-developed solutions to African challenges.
These projects underscore AUDA-NEPAD’s commitment to advancing regional integration, promoting socio-economic growth, and building resilience across Africa.
Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, CEO of AUDA-NEPAD, remarked, “The Boma of Africa 2024 represents a significant milestone in our journey towards realizing the Africa we envision. It’s not just about dreaming of a better future, but actively building it through concrete actions and innovative solutions.”
The event attracted a diverse audience of policymakers, business leaders, civil society representatives, and young innovators from across the continent. Participants engaged in dynamic discussions on topics ranging from economic integration and digital transformation to climate resilience and youth empowerment.
The success of The Boma of Africa 2024 in Accra marks another step forward in Africa’s journey towards sustainable development and regional cooperation.
