Black Queens seal WAFCON qualification with commanding 4-0 victory over Egypt

Doris Boaduwaa's hat-trick completes emphatic 7-0 aggregate triumph in Accra

Ghana have booked their place at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 after crushing Egypt 4-0 in Accra on Tuesday evening, sealing a comprehensive 7-0 aggregate victory in the final round of qualifying.

The Black Queens, who had won the first leg 3-0 in Cairo, dominated from start to finish at the Accra Sports Stadium. Doris Boaduwaa was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick to confirm Ghana’s return to the forefront of African women’s football.

On a pulsating evening backed by a passionate home crowd, Ghana left no chance for the Egyptians, who were overwhelmed by the hosts’ pace and control.

From the first whistle, Ghana looked the more threatening side. They probed Egypt’s back line repeatedly, created overlaps down the flanks and forced numerous corners and free kicks. But despite the dominance in possession and wave after wave of pressure, the Black Queens could not find the net. Shots went just wide, headers were saved and the final pass often lacked the precision needed to unlock the Egyptian defence. The staunch resistance of the visitors, coupled with Ghana’s own inability to finish promising moves, meant the half ended goalless – a frustrating but not disastrous outcome given the cushion from the first leg.

The floodgates opened early in the second half. Just minutes after the restart, forward Boaduwaa pounced on a loose ball after the Egyptian goalkeeper failed to deal with a lofted pass. Buoyed by the breakthrough, the Black Queens pressed on and Boaduwaa doubled her tally shortly afterwards, finishing off a lovely low cross from Princess Marfo. Then came the third – a well-weighted cross from winger Comfort Yeboah curled in at pace and nestled into the corner to make it 3-0 in convincing fashion.

With the job all but done, Ghana relaxed into the rhythm of the evening. In the late stages, substitute Stella Nyamekye laid off a neat cut-back to Boaduwaa, who calmly fired low past the keeper to complete her hat-trick and wrap up the 4-0 victory.

The emphatic 7-0 aggregate victory sends the Black Queens back to the WAFCON stage with authority. Their last appearance saw them finish third in the 2025 edition. This qualification comes at a critical time as the top four teams in the 2026 WAFCON, to be hosted in Morocco, will also qualify for the upcoming Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
