Kumasi, Ghana – Fresh off their historic quarter-final triumph, Dreams FC of Ghana now face their toughest test yet as they prepare to take on Egyptian club Zamalek in the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup.
In a thrilling encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium, Dreams FC secured their place in the Semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 1-1 draw against Stade Malien of Mali.
The Ghanaian side had won the earlier fixture away 2-1, and needed just a draw at home to progress to the last eight of the continental competition.
They achieved this objective thanks to Sylvester Simba’s 70th-minute equalizer, which canceled out Yoro Mamadou Diaby’s 59th-minute opener for the visitors.
With the 3-2 aggregate victory, Dreams FC have become the first Ghana Premier League club to reach the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup since the introduction of the current format in 2017.
“What a story! What a Dream! Young talents doing the unimaginable with the needed assistance from experienced seniors, summing up incredible journey of work by our Technical Team, Management and Board. Join us let’s celebrate this milestone for Ghana,” the team posted
The Dawu-based side have already made Ghanaian football history by becoming the first local club to reach this stage of Africa’s secondary club competition, a feat only achieved by Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in 2004.
Now, they have the opportunity to reach even greater heights by overcoming the formidable challenge posed by Zamalek.
The Egyptian giants are no strangers to continental success, having won the CAF Champions League a record five times.
It will be a true test of Dreams FC’s mettle, as they look to overcome the experience and pedigree of their Egyptian opponents.
They will undoubtedly provide a stern test for the Dreams FC squad, who will be aiming to pull off a major upset and book their place in the final.
However, the Ghanaian side have already demonstrated their ability to punch above their weight, and they will be eager to continue their fairytale run in the competition.
