The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the nominees for its men’s categories ahead of the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony to be held in Marrakech, Morocco, on 16 December.
Ten players will compete for the prestigious African Player of the Year award, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Achraf Hakimi looking to go one better after finishing second to Victor Osimhen last year.
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has earned a remarkable triple nomination. The South African shot-stopper features in the Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Interclub Player of the Year categories.
Other notable nominees include Brighton’s Ivorian forward Simon Adingra, Marseille’s Congolese defender Chancel Mbemba, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, who has been in impressive form for Borussia Dortmund.
The shortlist also features Algeria’s Amine Gouiri (Rennes), Burkina Faso’s Edmond Tapsoba (Bayer Leverkusen), Morocco’s Soufiane Rahimi (Al Ain), Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman (Atalanta), and Saudi-based William Troost-Ekong.
Winners will be determined through votes from a panel comprising the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, and head coaches and captains of member associations and clubs involved in interclub competitions.
