With three days left before the kick-off of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) U-23, the governing body of African football, CAF, unveiled today the official poster of the continental tournament.
The poster has been carefully designed to illustrate the hand of a footballer holding the coveted continental trophy, which for contending teams also embodies the quest for continental supremacy.
The green rays in the poster symbolize the verdant lawns of Africa, while the red rays display the passion of the competing nations, CAF said of the poster. The dominance of these two colors echoes the Moroccan flag colors.
The opening match of the competition will be played in Rabat this Saturday, June 24, between the hosting country Morocco and Guinea.
The tournament will take place between June 24 and July 8 in the Moroccan cities of Rabat and Tangier, namely at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat and the Grand Stade in Tangier.
The competition will see the participation of eight teams: Morocco, Egypt, Guinea, Niger, Gabon, Ghana, Congo, and Mali.
Morocco is in Group A alongside Ghana, Congo, and Guinea, while Group B includes Egypt, Mali, Gabon, and Niger.
The U-23 AFCON is a qualifying competition for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. This is the second Africa Cup of Nations U-23 to be held in Morocco since the tournament’s inception in 2011.
