Captain of the Ethiopian national team, Masoud Musa, says his team deserved to win their match against Mozambique in their opening Group A fixture of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship played at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers.
The teams shared the spoils after a 0-0 stalemate following a cagey affair.
“The match ended in a draw. We did our best to win in our first match and we deserved it. We will try to win the next two matches, in order to qualify for the next round”, said Musa.
The skipper went on to touch about the importance of a result in their next match against hosts, Algeria.
“Yes, Algeria will be playing in front of their fans and the task will be difficult. We need to rest from this match and start preparing for the next match”
Mozambique’s defender on the other hand, Amad Mohamed said the point against Ethiopia was good given that it was the opening match
“We played a good match, given that it was our first match in the tournament. We wanted to win our opening match but we could not achieve that. We did not play well in the first half, but played a bit better in the second”, said Mohamed.
The defender also said their next match against Libya was a must win.
“Libya has a good and organized squad and we studied it them as we did with Ethiopia. We need to ensure that we are in second place before facing Algeria in the last match.” We now have a point and Algeria has three which makes this upcoming fixture quite critical” concluded Mohamed.
