South African DStv Premiership club Kaizer Chiefs have shortlisted 5 potential candidates for their vacant head coach role, according to a new report by Soccer Laduma.
Interim coach Cavin Johnson will return to his original post as head of development after temporarily filling in as head coach, the report adds.
This comes few days after the Amakhosi were ousted by the Motsepe Foundation Championship side in a 5-4 penalty shootout following a goalless draw at FNB Stadium on Sunday, February 25th.
According to the report, two of the five shortlisted coaches are South Africans – Pitso Mosimane and Moqoba Mngqithi. The list also features two unnamed Europeans and one South American candidate.
October 2022 marked a major change at Chiefs as the club announced the departure of Arthur Zwane as head coach after a poor start to the season. It didn’t take long before the club appointed Johnson as interim head coach.
However, Chiefs were ousted by ABC Motsepe League side Milford FC in a 5-4 penalty shootout following a goalless draw in the Nedbank Cup last 16 clash on Sunday.
Meanwhile, league fixtures continue this coming weekend. Chiefs have a DStv Premiership clash against Moroka Swallows on Saturday at FNB Stadium. Kick-off is at 17:45.
The club will be hoping to appoint a permanent new head coach soon as they aim to turn around their season.
