The Ethiopian government has announced significant progress in the second phase of the Addis Ababa Corridor development project, as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali shared updates on the ambitious initiative.
The project is working on eight corridor pathways spanning 2,879 hectares across the capital city.
The prime minister emphasised three key priorities driving the corridor development: building cities fit for the next generation, nurturing a population capable of thriving in transforming urban environments, and cultivating civic leadership to guide these transformations effectively.
“Significant progress has been made so far, drawing from the experiences of the first phase to make our cities more conducive to growth and livability,” Prime Minister Abiy stated. The corridor project aims to revitalise Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s political and economic heart, through strategic infrastructure investments and urban planning.

This second phase builds upon the successes and lessons learned from the initial corridor development, as the government works to create a more sustainable, liveable and economically vibrant capital city. The expansive project will connect various parts of Addis Ababa, improving mobility, access to services and economic opportunities for residents.
With a growing population and rapidly changing urban landscape, Ethiopia recognises the critical importance of proactive planning and development to ensure its cities can support the needs of present and future generations. The Addis Ababa Corridor project is a key component of the country’s broader vision for inclusive, resilient and prosperous urban centres.
