Ghana have been forced to reshuffle their national team squad after eight players withdrew from the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
The Black Stars currently sit third in their qualification group, with Angola already assured of a spot in the 2024 tournament and Sudan needing just a draw to join them.
This means Ghana must win both their remaining matches while hoping Sudan lose their final two games in order to snatch the last qualification spot.
In response to the withdrawals, Ghana have called up six new players to their squad. Osman Bukari, Ransford Yeboah Koningsdorffer, Forson Amankwah, Terry Yegbe, Ebenezer Annan and Kingsley Schindler will join the team as replacements.
The withdrawn players include Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, Jonas Adjetey, Tariq Lamptey, Jerome Opoku, Alexander Djiku, Ibrahim Osman and Joseph Painstil. They cited various injury reasons for their absence, with Painstil noting his withdrawal was for personal reasons.
The new call-ups will be tasked with keeping Ghana’s slim qualification hopes alive in the upcoming fixtures, as the Black Stars look to secure a spot in the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
