Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has outlined a vision for transforming the country’s food security, stating that “Ethiopia’s food security and path to food sovereignty will be transformed”.
The Prime Minister, amid the visiti of Mr Bill Gates, has laid out a vision for transforming the country’s food security and achieving food sovereignty.
In a statement, Mr Abiy emphasised the importance of strong partnerships in building a self-reliant and climate-resilient nation.
The prime minister highlighted investing in sustainable agriculture, modern technology, and capacity-building as key strategies to boost productivity and diversify crops.
“With strong partnerships, Ethiopia’s food security and path to food sovereignty will be transformed, paving the way for a future where the nation is self-reliant and resilient in the face of climate challenges,” Mr Abiy said,
“By investing in sustainable agriculture, modern technology, and capacity-building, Ethiopia can boost productivity, diversify crops, and improve access to nutritious food.
“Such collaborations will empower communities, create economic opportunities, and drive innovation, positioning Ethiopia as a leader in sustainable food systems and ensuring a thriving, food-secure future for our people.”
The prime minister’s comments come as Ethiopia, like many countries in the Horn of Africa, faces recurring challenges related to food security and climate change.
Mr Abiy’s plan aims to improve access to nutritious food across the country, which has a population of over 100 million people. However, the statement did not provide specific details on implementation or timelines for the proposed initiatives.
