Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay has expressed her readiness for the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow that begins on Friday March 1, with high expectation on the 27-year-old to make another history.
The World Athletics Indoor Championships 2024 is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland from 1-3 March 2024.
The newly minted world record holder in the outdoor 5000m has the opportunity to win another indoor title in Glasgow, and also a chance to break Genzebe Dibaba’s world indoor record of 8:16.60.
She broke the world record in the 5,000 meters at the Prefontaine Classic in September last year, running the distance in 14:00.21.
She also won the 1500m in the Diamond League earlier in May.
Tsegay beat the previous record of 14:05.20, which was set by Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon earlier this year in Paris.
If Tsegay triumphs in Glasgow, it would mean she has won four global titles across four different distances across the space of two years.
She is ranked no. 5 in the World with 2xWorld champion honours, 1xDiamond League Final winner, 1xWorld Championships Silver medallist and 1xWorld Indoor champion.
More than 650 competitors from more than 130 countries are vying for medals in 26 athletics disciplines – 13 for women, 13 for men.
