In a swift response, the South African Football Association (SAFA) has firmly denied rumors that the Under-17 men’s national team, the Amajimbos, was stranded at the airport due to unpaid flight tickets.
The claims, which have been circulating on various platforms, are “not true,” according to SAFA’s official statement.
In fact, the Amajimbos have been invited to Santiago de Cali, Colombia, where they will play two international friendly matches as part of their preparations for the upcoming COSAFA U-17 Championships and the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
The South African U17 team reported for camp on April 10, 2024 and are expected to depart for Colombia on April 13, ahead of the scheduled matches on April 17 and 20.
“Amajimbos training session this afternoon at the SAFA Technical Centre, as they continue to prepare for their international friendly matches against,” it said.
