Ghanaian champions FC Samartex 1996 have secured their place in the final qualifying round of the CAF Champions League with a narrow victory over Victoria United.
Isaac Afful’s goal was enough to seal a 1-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The result mirrored their away victory in the first leg at Douala Omnisport Stadium a week earlier, giving Samartex a 2-0 aggregate win over their Chadian opponents.
Solid defensive performances in both matches were crucial to Samartex’s success, as they kept clean sheets across the two legs.
The Ghanaian side are now one step closer to reaching the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition for the first time in their history.
Samartex will face stiffer opposition in the second preliminary round as they continue their quest for continental glory.
