Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo has received one of France’s highest distinctions, the Grand Officier de la Légion d’Honneur, from President Emmanuel Macron.
The prestigious Legion of Honour award was presented to President Akufo-Addo during an official state visit to France. This distinguished honour was established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte to recognise exceptional contributions and service.
In a social media post, President Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude, saying: “This distinguished honour, awarded during an official visit to France is one of the highest ranks within France’s Légion d’Honneur.”

The Legion of Honour has five ranks, with Grand Officier being the second-highest. This elite rank is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and made invaluable contributions in their field. Recipients are considered to have rendered eminent services to the French Republic.
It is one of France’s most prestigious decorations, with previous recipients including world leaders, scientists, artists, and other luminaries.
President Akufo-Addo’s award is seen as a testament to the strong diplomatic ties between Ghana and France, as well as his leadership and contributions on the global stage.
