The 2023 edition of the Annual Sheikh Sharubutu Ramadan Cup will be officially launched on Thursday, April 6, at the Kempinki Hotel in Accra, organizers have announced.
It is the 8th edition of the tournament, established under the auspices of the Ghana National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, to promote peace and unity within the Zongo (Muslim) communities in the West African country.
Since its inception in 2015 in Accra, the community challenge cup, which started with six teams from the Greater Accra and Central regions, has grown steadily to attract other teams from other regions and had 24 competing as of last year.
And Thursday’s launch will reveal the date of commencement and the number of teams that will be competing in this year’s edition, from which match fixtures will be drawn for the tournament, which promises to be keenly contested at the usual venue of Fadama Astro Turf in Accra.
The last edition saw Kasoa beat North Kaneshie by 4:3 in a penalty shootout in the Grand Finale, clinching a back-to-back triumph after defeating Hohoe Zongo in 2021.
