Ghana is set to launch Elon Musk’s Starlink internet service by the end of August, following approval from the National Communications Authority (NCA).
The NCA said it had completed all necessary administrative and licensing procedures, allowing Starlink to roll out its high-speed internet services across the nation.
Ghana will join several other African countries where Starlink operates, including Rwanda, Nigeria, Kenya and Zambia.
Before the approval, some users in Ghana had accessed Starlink through its global roaming service, bypassing local restrictions.
The NCA confirmed that the service will be managed by Space X Starlink GH LTD, a branch of Mr Musk’s SpaceX company.
Starlink uses a network of low-Earth orbit satellites, which can provide faster internet speeds than traditional satellites.
As of April, the network consisted of about 5,800 satellites, with the potential to offer download speeds exceeding 100 Mbps in some areas.
The move is expected to increase competition in Ghana’s internet market.
