Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has assured the world of the country’s capability of hosting the World Championship, saying participants will have unforgettable hospitality and an event to remember as it hosts the 45th World Armwrestling Championship in August 2024.
Speaking with passion and pride at a media conference held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, the President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, said the West African nation is ready to give the world a remarkable experience.
He expressed his excitement about this incredible opportunity to host the competition that will bring athletes from all corners of the globe, while he looks forward to an event that epitomises Ghana’s reputation for exceptional hospitality.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have been given the honour of hosting the World Armwrestling Championship,” he said.
“We want to showcase not only the talent and skill of armwrestlers from all over the world but also the warm and friendly hospitality that Ghana is known for. We believe this event will put arm wrestling in the spotlight and further strengthen the sport’s global appeal.”
The president’s assurance speech comes just a month after his country was selected to host the World Championship for the first time.
Ghana will host the international arm wrestling competition next August. and Asieby, who also serves as President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa and Vice President of the World Armwrestling Federation, revealed the country was chosen over Egypt after putting up a strong bid at the Congress in Almaty, Kazakhstan, last month.
He touted Ghana’s superior facilities, adding that the event arena at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) alone gives enough satisfaction to show the world that “we are capable.”
“We are capable! Again, when the president and his secretariat visited Ghana, we took them around; they visited the Alisa Hotel, and they were impressed,” he said.
“I took them to the event centres, and they were overly excited by the facility at UPSA. For all the World Championships I have been to, if indeed we are going to use the UPSA, I have never seen an event arena at the World Championship like the UPSA’s.
“We will show them something; every vice president that will come will have his own escort.”
Expecting about 2,000 athletes and spectators across the country, Mr. Osei Asibey said the event will offer a huge platform for Cooperative Ghana to make a huge business.
Asibey further emphasized the federation’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
“Our main goal is to provide a platform where athletes can showcase their skills and compete at the highest level while also creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and friendship,” he stated.
“We’re confident that our world-class organization combined with Ghana’s renowned hospitality will make this championship an unforgettable one for participants and spectators alike.”
Ghana has long been regarded as one of the friendliest nations in Africa, and the Ghana Armwrestling Association, in alignment with this reputation, aims to create an atmosphere that radiates warmth and friendliness for all participating teams.
According to Mr. Assibey, the launch for the 45th World Armwrestling Championship will be held next month in Accra.
