Ghana’s Internal Audit Agency has concluded its Annual Internal Audit Conference with an awards ceremony recognising outstanding performers in the field.
The two-day event, held at the Kofi Kunadu Auditorium at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), brought together key stakeholders from the public sector to discuss improving audit performance.
Mr. Emmanuel Paul Owusu, the Internal Auditor for the University of Cape Coast, claimed the top honour as the overall best internal auditor.
Reacting to his win, Mr. Owusu said he feel honoured for grabbing the top award.
“I am highly honoured and actually overwhelmed,” he said.
“We’ve been doing our best over the years, trying to make sure that we implement anything we receive from the audit agency.
“We ensure to report on time, send our audit report on time, trying to comply with every directive they give us.This is the second time I got nominated and fortunately this time around it was successful..”
Under the theme “Consolidating Democratic Governance and Accountability; Role of Internal Auditors”, the conference highlighted the crucial role of internal auditing in maintaining good governance.
The gathering included heads of public institutions and audit committees, who explored ways to enhance the effectiveness of internal auditing in the public sector.
Recent figures from the 2023 Auditor-General’s report underscored the importance of the profession, revealing that internal auditors’ vigilance had saved the country 5.4bn Ghanaian cedis (£356m) from financial irregularities.
The Internal Audit Agency, which organised the event, aims to strengthen accountability and transparency in public financial management through such initiatives.
