The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Ghana has announced that it will be holding a crucial Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) on April 20, 2024 in a move to strengthen the Paralympic movement in country.
It comes few months ahead of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris
The EGA was initially scheduled for November 30, 2023 and February 2, 2024, but had to be postponed to allow NPC Ghana’s members to provide input on the organization and execution of the recently concluded 13th African Games, official statement indicates.
“The EGA presents a valuable opportunity for us to strengthen the foundation of the Paralympic movement in Ghana,” said Mr. Samson Deen, President of the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana,” told africanews360.com
“We are committed to working closely with our members to ensure that Para-athletes in Ghana have the necessary support and resources to excel not only at the continental level, but also on the global stage.”
This multi-sport event served as an important platform for Ghanaian Para-athletes to showcase their talent and abilities on the continental stage.
The upcoming Extraordinary General Assembly will have the following agenda items:
- Consideration and approval of Annual Membership Fees
- Consideration and approval of new Para Sports Federations/Associations
- Amendments to Article 2 on Membership (Sections 1-5)
- Determination of the date for the Elective General Assembly as per the NPC’s constitution
NPC Ghana is requesting that each of its member organizations nominate and send two (2) delegates to the EGA, with one (1) delegate having voting rights. The nominations and delegate information must be received by NPC Ghana no later than 5:00 PM local time on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
In addition, the NPC has invited media representatives to cover the Extraordinary General Assembly. Journalists wishing to attend must apply for accreditation through the official email of the NPC Ghana secretariat: info@npcghana.org.
The member organizations expected to participate in the EGA include a wide range of Para sports disciplines, such as Para Athletics, Para Powerlifting, Sitting Volleyball, Shooting Para Sports, Wheelchair Basketball, and many others.
