A Ghanaian woman has been shot dead by unidentified persons on Cambridge Street in Worcester, Massachusetts, the police have confirmed.
Police said the 41-year-old woman was shot shortly after 7p.m. Saturday. She was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A second woman was also taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound, but she had less serious injuries, the police statement said.
Neighbours said the women were from Ghana and active members of the West African business community in Worcester. Neither woman’s identity has been released by the police.
Friends say the victim had two young children who lived with her at the Cambridge Street home.
Residents in the neighborhood said she is not surprised by violence in the area.
Police are continuing to investigate what led to the shooting, and are asking anyone with any information to reach out to them.
Police said they were looking for a red Toyota Camry that was seen leaving the scene.
