The Ghana national football team departed Kotoka International Airport on Wednesday for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) hosted by Ivory Coast.
Amid much hopes in colouful african wear, the Black Stars boarded their flight to Abidjan three days prior to the start of the prestigious continental championship.

Eyes of the nation will be firmly fixed on the Black Stars as they aim to capture Ghana’s first AFCON title since 1982. Hopes are high that new coach Otto Addo can lead Ghana’s talented squad, featuring the likes of Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus and Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew , to glory.
Some fans waved flags and chanted team songs in a short send off ceremony as the players walked across the tarmac and boarded their flight.

The Black Stars will set up camp in Abidjan and play two warmup friendlies before taking on their first AFCON opponent, Egypt, on January 15th. Ghana is drawn in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
Captain Andre Ayew promised fans that the team will “fight with heart and soul” to end Ghana’s AFCON drought. The Black Stars last lifted the trophy in 1982, and they are determined to return to Accra victorious on February 10th.
