The Mozambique national football team played a friendly match against Botswana on Monday as part of their preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The match, that took place in South Africa, comes just two days after the Mambas beat Lesotho in another preparatory Match towards the tournament that kicks off on Saturday January 14.
Botswana took a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal scored in the 34th minute.
Mozambique equalized late in the second half thanks to a goal by Clesio Bauque in the 89th minute. The match finished in a 1-1 draw.
This was Mozambique’s final friendly match before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations. They are drawn in Group B alongside Egypt, Cape Verde and Ghana.
Mozambique will play their first AFCON match against Egypt on Sunday, January 14th.
The draw against Botswana provides Mozambique with momentum heading into the tournament after a long absence from AFCON competition.
While Egypt will pose a formidable challenge, the late equalizer against Botswana provides a much-needed confidence boost for Mozambique. who returned to a major tournament like the AFCON after a long absence
