Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah has confirmed the completion of the first phase of Sunyani Airport after taking a tour of the facility.
Speaking to the media after the inspection, he was hopeful that the airport will serve the transportation needs of the people of erstwhile Brong Ahafo Region.
Since then, the airport has undergone renovation which covered the rehabilitation of the terminal and tarmac among other works in a bid to meet international standards.
The expansion of the runway has been the focal point of the rehabilitation as it will allow the airport accommodate bigger aircraft.
The Transport Minister was accompanied by management of the Ghana Airport Company led by its managing director, Pamela Djamson- Tettey, Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu Banahene, Minister for Employment and Labour Relations Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Sunyani East MP, Kwasi Ameyaw Kyeremeh and other government officials and representatives from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and the Ghana Airforce.
The Transport Minister, further assured that phase 2 of the project will commence soon.
Director of operations at Resources Access Limited, the company in charge of the rehabilitation, Abdul Salam Zabililah Alhassan told the media that the runway is ready for operation.
The managing director of the Ghana Airport Company, Pamela Djamson-Tettey believes the operation of the Sunyani Airport means more revenue for the company
For her part the Bono Regional Minister Justina Owusu Bannahene is optimistic that the airport will be beneficial to the Bono, Bono East and the Ahafo Regions.
