The ongoing strike actions by University Teachers Association (UTAG) and Technical Universities Teachers’ Association (TUTAG) have affected the graduation ceremonies on various campuses.
The graduation ceremony by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) which was scheduled to come off on 26th December 2022 was suspended.
TUTAG ISSUES MEMO TO WARN MEMBERS
From the memo above, only private Universities may undertake their graduation ceremony.
After the press release, Kumasi Technical University also complied and issued memo and text messages to the university community for the postponement of its 18th Congregation for Masters, BTech and Dipolma Students who completed their programmes in the 2021/2022 academic year.
The text message cited by Africanews360.com read, “In view of the Strike Action by the Technical Universities Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG), the Graduation Ceremony scheduled for Thursday 1st December 2022 has been postponed until further notice, any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted”
Students who spoke with Africanews360.com on anonymity said, “In these hard times, I have managed to pay a graduation fee of Gh350.00 only to be told 48hrs to graduation ceremony has been postponed indefinitely”
Another student said, “my Uncle has traveled from Germany for my graduation, see what they have caused”….
A female student also said, “I have even bought all foodstuffs for this occasion, I don’t know what to even do”.
