Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag has changed Harry Maguire as his captain after the end of 2022/23 season.
In the club’s statement, it said: “Everyone at Manchester United thanks Harry Maguire for his contribution as captain over the past three and a half years”.
“The manager will announce the new captain in due course, after briefing the players.”
After the announcement the former United captain took to Twitter to express his disappointment.
He said: “After discussions with the manager today he has informed me he is changing captain. He outlined his reasons to me and whilst I’m personally extremely disappointed, I will continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt”.
He therefore thanked the fans for supporting him whilst he was in charge commanding his teammates on the field of player.
Maguire, expressed his appreciation to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for giving him that opportunity to lead a club like Manchester United, “I wish whoever now takes it on every success and they will have my full support” he added.
