Tunisian-Spanish actress Hiba Abouk has claimed that she was more popular than her ex-partner and Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi, in response to criticism of her on social media as the divorce proceedings progress.
“It is a macho and misogynist world considering that when we started our relationship he did not earn money and I was better known than him. Imagine that,” Marca quoted Abouk as saying.
Addressing speculations and criticism, Abouk said that she is no longer “affected” by what her critics say about her.
“I want to be discreet so that tomorrow does not affect our family,” Abouk said, adding that she trusts “justice and common sense.”
Abouk confirmed her separation from Hakimi in March. Many criticzed the actress’ decision as her announcement came amid rape allegations targeting the footballer.
French prosecutors announced earlier this year that the Moroccan international is facing alleged rape allegations after a 24-year-old accused him of raping her in his house while his wife and two sons were away on holiday.
Following the separation case, media reports claimed the actress was requesting half of the Hakimi’s property and wealth as part of the divorce settlement.
However, subsequent reports and rumors claimed that Abouk discovered that Hakimi had transferred all of his assets under his mother’s name.
Amid the speculation and rumors, Hakimi’s mother Saida Mouh said her son did not inform her of the fortune transfer.
“If he has taken any action to protect himself, I’m unaware of it,” she said. “What’s the problem if the news is true? If my son does not do this, he will not be able to get rid of that woman [Hiba Abouk],” she added.
Legal experts have subsequently cast doubt on the truth behind the reports however, as they argued transferring money to avoid a divorce settlement would be a breach of European laws and would subject Hakimi to hefty fines and possible time in prison.
