For the second year in a row, fans have claimed that singer Makhadzi has been “snubbed” by the South African Music Awards (SAMAs)
This, after the Limpopo star lost out on the highly-coveted “Sampra Artist of the Year” award at the live show on Sunday night.
The award went to muso Haksul Muziq instead.
Makhadzi performed at the awards show, which was held in Sun City over the weekend.
SAMAS ‘SNUBS’ AND ‘SABOTAGE’
In 2021, fans of Makhadzi accused SAMAs of “snubbing” their favourite star, after her music did not make the shortlist of nominees.
This time around, the singer and dancer walked away with the “Music Video of the Year” award for her hit song Ghanama. However, she had her eyes on another prize – the “Artist of the Year” gong.
And tweeps were just as disappointed, questioning why the award went to a relatively unknown muso instead.
@RealDeeproCrump: “How do you give someone nobody knows ‘Artist of the Year’ award over someone the entire country loves and supports? Haksul Muziq, who TF is that?”
@Babyboy_kelo: “Artist of the year was supposed to be A-Reece or Makhadzi, who’s Haksul Muziq?”
@SmangieSurprise: “The guy who won Artist of the year? Yerrrr, I will never ever waste my airtime to vote for SAMAs again! This award was daylight robbery”

Some even accused the awards show of “tribalism”
@MenziwokuhleMa1: “If Makhadzi was a Zulu artist the story was going to be different altogether. The sabotage is drawn along tribal lines. She is a talented artist but the problem is that she is from Limpopo and does not meet their standards. The music industry is evil”
@Gobetse_M: “Why can’t they just call them the Anti- Limpopo Awards? We had the likes of Bojo Mujo and Umanji in the past now Master KG and Makhadzi but no awards, because they’re not Zulu or Xhosa. Organisers of these rubbish SAMAs are really taking us backwards”

On Sunday night, SAMAs bosses were again accused of trying to “sabotage” Makhadzi whose performance was cut short and riddled with technical glitches.
Why did they send Makhadzi an invitation to perform at their boring show, just to humiliate her by cutting her performance shot?
They should have asked their faves to perform, let our Queen enjoy the show while sitting in her comfortable home.

MAKHADZI RESPONDS
Meanwhile, Makhadzi has posted – and deleted – several tweets relating to the SAMAs performance and her subsequent “snub”.
In them, the star accused organisers of trying to “sabotage” her performance
She reportedly posted:
“I rehearsed with a cellphone on stage to do my performance. I asked to rehearse with the camera guys so they can read my moves, no one listened to me”.
She added: “I asked for smoke and fireworks, they promised but never delivered. But I remain a queen”.
Makhadzi also hinted that the “Artist of the Year” award was meant for her.
She continued: “I am sure the person who changed the name will befriend tomorrow”.
